September is Recovery Month when people around the world participate in events to celebrate Addiction Recovery and increase Recovery awareness.

All Recovery Month events will be held in compliance with COVID-19 public health guidelines and so some events involving groups have had to be changed, see Calendar below for updates.

Recovery Mural Launch 30th September
Who’s involved? How can I get involved?
This project will be ongoing throughout the month of September and is being led by artist Fionnuala Halpin. People in Recovery and organisations supporting Recovery from across the NICDATF area are getting involved.
The Recovery Mural is being officially launched by Lord Mayor of Dublin Hazel Chu at 12.15pm on International Recovery Day, Wednesday 30th of September.
Various groups have been hard at work, and the Mural is looking great!
Saturday 5th of September
Soilse Hill Walking in the Dublin Mountains

Monday 7th of September
Soilse Cycle & Sea Swim
Who’s involved?
A group from Soilse had a great day out in Howth.
This was a Recovery Coach led event. ‘Recovery Coaches’ mentor and give practical assistance to people in early recovery. To find out more about Recovery Coaching contact Recovery Academy Ireland.

Who’s involved?
SAOL Sisters have started a tour around various outdoor locations the North East Inner City, singing for Recovery Month.

Soilse Recovery Walk
Who’s involved?
As the National Recovery Walk was not able to go ahead, Soilse did their own 20KM Recovery Walk this year.

SAOL does Recovery through Yoga
Who’s involved?
SAOL participants: This event is limited to a group from SAOL due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Every Friday in September from 10am to 1pm in SAOL
SAOL recording Recovery and Covid-19 experiences through Creative Writing and Drama

Thursday 17th of September
Launch of Soilse Drama
Who’s involved?
This is a Recovery Coach led project which is ongoing, and will be launched on Thursday 17th September. It will be available via digital media. More details will follow.
Friday 25th of September
Run for Recovery
Who’s involved? How can I get involved?
Due to the restrictions on gatherings this event changed from a group to an individual event.
People did their own 5K walk / run / cycle and uploaded their achievements on the Recovery Month 2020 Dublin NIC Facebook page.
More than 25 people did the run. The goal was to the bring unity, even in social distancing, around the concept of recovery and to raise awareness that recovery is possible.This event was managed by Irene in the HOPE project who did a fantastic job managing this in the challenging and changing situation.

Wednesday 30th of September
North West Inner City Training & Development Project; providing rehabilitation to drug users in the north inner city
Who’s involved? How can I get involved?
Stepping Stones to Recovery, Recovery Rocks! – an art project where the participants will decorate stones/rocks with what recovery means to them, what the theme ‘leave a light on’ means to them as they move forward in their recovery.
This will take place on September 30th 2020 from 10am-1pm
Unfortunately due to covid restrictions the event will be limited to the service users of the project along with project staff and the art teacher for the project.

International Recovery Day

Who’s involved? How can I get involved?
On the 30th of Sept, prominent buildings across Dublin including the Mansion House, the Convention Centre, and City Hall will be lighting up in Purple for Recovery.
We ask that people in Recovery, addiction recovery services family and friends come out and support the event by walking from the different buildings that will be lit up on the night, sharing your pictures and showing your support for this event.
